Friday mornings: Achievement assembly at 8.50am

Friday afternoons: Home/school reading book change

Children will need to bring their reading books and reading records with them to school every day

World book day

This March we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as a favourite character or by wearing something cosy to read.  We also enjoyed sharing our books with Year 5, decorating book marks, learning how illustrators draw the characters for their books and making a class book about the characters we had dressed as or the outfits we were wearing.

Tractors into schools

During Term 4, we were lucky enough to have a visit from a local farmer as part of the "Tractors into schools" initiative.  It was really interesting finding out about his job, what he grows and how the tractor is used on the farm.  We all enjoyed sitting in the tractor too!

RE: Creation Stories and what they teach about God and human nature

History: Castles and Knights

DT: Designing, making and evaluating glove puppets

Term 3

Science: As part of our Animals including Humans topic we learnt about the body, we particularly enjoyed exploring fruit using our senses.  We also learnt about Winter and how it compared to Autumn.

RE:  We started to look at  Creation Stories and what they teach about God and human nature.  We looked at a variety of viewpoints including an aboriginal creation story and the creation story as it appears in Genesis.  We will continue this learning next term.

Geography: We have looked at the weather in this country as well as how the weather varies across the seasons.  We have also looked at weather data for patterns and how where a place is located in the world in relation to the equator will affect the temperature.

Art: We completed paintings inspired by Pop Art using bold colours and black pens to add outlines.

TERM 2

Science: We continued our learning about Materials and Seasonal Change.  We have loved recording the weather every day and we will use our data to create a pictogram to show what the weather was like in Autumn.

RE: We looked at the Christian story of the Nativity and how Christians may celebrate Christmas.  We also enjoyed acting out the story for our grown ups.  Our teachers were very proud.  We also looked at the Jewish story about Hannukah and how Jews may celebrate this festival.  We created our own pictures of a menorah to remember the special significance of the 8 candles.

History: It was great fun finding out about toys from the past, we looked at the materials they were made from and talked about how they have changed over time.  Mrs Thomas even brought a teddy and a My Little Pony toy to school from when she was a little girl!

Computing: We concluded out learning about Digital Painting by designing a Christmas Card for our grown ups.

Term 1

Science: We have learnt about materials and their properties.  We loved testing which material would be the stickiest to stick No-Bot's bottom back on!

RE: We have been learning about Special stories and Sacred stories from Christian and Jewish perspectives.  Everyone was confident to talk about their favourite story.

Geography: Mrs Thomas has been really impressed with our knowledge of our local area.  We were able to describe Bardney and draw routes around the village on a map.

Art: In art,we used clay to make pinch pots.  We used a range of techniques including pinching, rolling, kneading.

Music: This term, Miss Clarke has taught us.  We have been learning about tempo changes and playing on the steady beat.

From the pictures below, I'm sure you can see that Forest school has been the highlight of our week during this half term!

Reading & Phonics

It is really important for children to read regularly at home.  It's also great practice for children to listen to stories being read to them. Try to read for a few minutes every day and record it in your child's reading record. If your child has 5 reading entries in a week, they will be entered into our school  reading raffle which is drawn every half term! They could win the opportunity to choose a book of their own to the value of £10.

Please see the link below to the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds parent help page for tips on how to help your child with phonics at home.

Using apps such as Numbots and TT Rocks will give children an opportunity to practice their number bonds and timestables at home in a fun, interactive way!
