Welcome to Nursery

This half term our topic is “Looking at the World around us”.  So far, the children have been talking about different types of weather and specifically about what the weather is like in Bardney in Winter.  We have also looked at some of the buildings we will find in our Village.  As the term progresses we plan to look at different types of environment such as town, countryside, seaside and talk about places we have visited and journeys we may have made.  This term we will explore the celebrations of Valentine’s day, Shrove Tuesday and Chinese New Year.

The children continue to take part in daily “letters and sounds” activities.  These help build listening and attention skills which will be beneficial for phonics learning when they start Reception.  A lot of maths is built into our daily routine, the children have also taken part in focussed activities and these have been met with plenty of enthusiasm.

The pictures below show our igloo role play area and the home corner set up as fish and chip shop.

Many parents ask how they can support their child at home, some ideas include:

  • Reading a variety of books
  • Pointing out print in the environment, for example; CO-OP sign, numbers on houses and buses, etc.
  • Counting anything and everything!
  • Independence in dressing, putting on coats and shoes
  • Using mark making tools and scissors
