Phonics at Bardney C or E and Methodist Primary School

We love reading and believe every child can become a fluent reader. Learning to read fluently ensures a child can access the full curriculum independently and ‘opens the door’ to learning and future success.

We believe phonics is the fundamental tool for reading. At Bardney, we have introduced a new phonics scheme, Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, which is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme.

Information on how we teach phonics and the progression of the sounds that children are taught can be found below.

On this website you will find videos explaining how to pronounce the sounds, as well as downloadable information to help your child remember how to form their letters and say their sounds.

There are also some video guides to show how to support your child at home when they are blending to read words or reading tricky words.

We are thrilled and delighted to be able to tell you that our school has been rated as ‘OUTSTANDING’ following our recent Section 48 SIAMS Church School Inspection. Welcome

Welcome to Bardney Church of England and Methodist Primary School

On behalf of the children, staff and governors I wish you a very warm welcome.

At Bardney Church of England and Methodist Primary School we believe our role is to ensure that all of our children achieve the best they possibly can. We do this within the context of Christian belief and practice in an environment that stimulates a love of learning.  We are committed to our mission statement of ‘Opening the door to learning’ within a Christian context of John 10:10 ‘to have life in all its fullness’. Through this we support our children to succeed academically, socially, personally, physically and spiritually, both inside and outside school.

The school environment is a calm and safe place where children feel they are able to ask for support and advice and are part of the decision making process.

We have chosen seven Christian values, Friendship, Trust, Compassion, Forgiveness, Honesty, Respect and Fairness, which we place a strong emphasis on to help create and sustain the Christian ethos of our school and develop a deep spiritual understanding. Our Christian values and ethos permeate all we do together.

Within our village school we have an extremely dedicated staff; teachers, non-teaching and support staff that support each child in reaching their potential. Visitors comment on our supportive team , the family feel of the school and our shared commitment to help every child in the school achieve their best.

We hope as you visit our website you will gain a sense of the value that we place in each child and our desire to ensure that high standards and pupil progress, in all areas, remain as high as possible within the caring and happy community which is Bardney Church of England and Methodist Primary School.
